Phoebe Maffei’s path to the courtroom began in community service. After high school, she came to California to serve with City Year, working in underserved communities where she saw firsthand how violence, instability, and poverty affect families. She witnessed how vulnerable people can be when systems fail them, and those experiences shaped her belief that people can be held accountable while still protecting due process and treating everyone with respect.
Before becoming a prosecutor, Phoebe worked outside the legal field and supported herself through law school as a server and bartender. Those experiences gave her perspective beyond the courthouse and helped her understand the challenges many working families face.
Phoebe believes the role of a judge is to apply the law fairly and consistently, not to advance a political agenda. The courtroom should never be a political stage. It is a place where decisions must be grounded in the law and the facts of each case, and where every person is treated with dignity and respect.
Phoebe Maffei is raising three daughters in San Francisco and cares deeply about the safety and future of the city’s communities. She believes strong courts help maintain safe, stable neighborhoods and build trust in the justice system.
That is the commitment she would bring to the bench: fairness, experience, integrity, and a belief that justice must truly be for all.
